Hi, I'm Carlos! I'm a Sports Medicine Specialist Based in my hometown, San Francisco, CA. I graduated from San Jose State University in 2006 with a BS in Kinesiology. From there I worked as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Santa Clara University for the baseball, water polo & golf teams. I worked with TRX, Equinox & Openfit over the years as a Certified Personal Trainer & FItness Program Coordinator. I picked up a wealth of knowledge & skills with my education & training, which led me into becoming a Certified Sports Medicine Specialist & Therapeutic Exercise Specialist. I launched my company Lowback Solutions in 2013 after suffering a back injury & learning to heal & rehabilitate it through exercise.
My background includes personal training, group instruction, exercise & design coordinating, strength & conditioning & physical therapy. I have multiple credentials in the field including CPT, NATA-ATC, NSCA-CSCS, TRX, & CPR-BLS.
Aside from my qualifications & expertise, what sets me apart is my attention to movement & pain. My approach combines connecting your mindset with your movement patterns. I focus my technique & programs on preventing injury, healing injury & dealing with chronic pain through therapeutic exercises.
Over 10 years ago I suffered from a debilitating lower back injury while lifting heavy weights in the gym. The injury took me away from basketball, the sport I love & the lifestyle I had grown accustomed to. I could barely walk as I suffered from numbness & lack of motor control in my left leg. I was scared I would never move athletically again. It was a scary yet humbling time in my life - I had pushed myself to an unforgivable injury that had no easy recovery.
For years I tried everything from getting chiropractic adjustments, taking prednisone & cortisone shots, to aligning my chakras with healing work. But nothing worked. The pain persisted. It wasn’t until I began to combine self-myofascial release with therapeutic strength training that I started noticing any progress.
Through years of consistency with this method plus my drive & dedication to get stronger I have fully recovered. This injury forced me to reinvent my training style for myself & my clients. I have implemented this strategy with my clients & it has proven to be one of the most efficient & effective ways to build strength without causing pain or injury.
I began focusing my line of work on people with back injuries. My personal experience paired with my professional background in kinesiology gives me the tools, understanding & empathy to help my clients reach their goals. My connection with pain & healing allows me to support my clients on a personal & relatable level.
The programs I have developed is what I call The Low Back Solution.
